Eco-chalenge1Want to help?
We are teaming up with Lexus eco chalenge to help save the planet one step at a time. Want to know how to help? Just recycle, try to add recycling bins in all large buildings, when possible. Even the little things make a difference. As for us, well we are working to put recycle bins at churches, hostpitals, and even fire departments to save as many materials as possible. If you do anything major of this sort be sure to contact us about it so we can give you credit.

Where did we come from?

We are a group from a science class at Olympus Jr. High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our Science teacher motivated us to enter a competition for the best project to save the planet. We, for our project, came up with better ways to dispose of leaves that have fallen from trees in Autumn so we don't have plastic leaf bags ending up in our dumps. We passed around flyers describing our two ways: First, put leaves directly in garbage cans, which helps decompose the garbage it is with. Second, buy bio-degradable garbage bags and put them in those. We also went around to houses in our neighborhood were they were incapable of raking their own leaves (usually older couples or widows) and took them to a recycling center at our city hall that composted the leaves. We composted sixty bags of leaves and passed out 200 fliers.

What we are doing now?

We were lucky enough to win the first round of the challenge, Lexus Eco Challenge, and are now doing a projest trying to get recycle bins in large buildings like: fire departments, hospitals, and churches. We would appreciate your help by taking recycling bins seriously and using them whenever the chance may befall you.
Our team contacted different organizations and tried to convince them begin recycling programs. The organizations that responded to us were: The Fire Department, Hospitals, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (The LDS church). We also put up posters around our school suggesting that kids in our school recycle whenever possible. We also went onto our schools morning announcements and suggested that kids recycle more and to go to our websites where they could find out more about what our team was doing, how they could help us, where to find recycling bins in our school, and many other things. As a team we created two different websites that people could go to too find out more about our project. These are… - http//leafterminators.webs.com
